SRUC

The Bee Health Improvement Partnership (BHIP) is responsible for the delivery and implementation of the Honey Bee Health Strategy. The strategy focuses on:

  • Education, training, and knowledge transfer.

  • Communication and partnership working across government, operational partners, stakeholders, and all those with an interest in honey bees in Scotland. 

  • Pest and disease surveillance, prevention, diagnosis, and control. 

  • Research and development. 

  • On-going review of the regulatory framework.

SRUC Bee Advisor

As a member of the Bee Health Improvement Partnership, the role of the SRUC Bee Advisor, Lorraine Johnston, is primarily concerned with bee health and education through:

  • providing advice to Scottish Government as part of the Honey Bee Health Strategy,

  • mentoring support and advice to all beekeepers, including inspectors,

  • organising strategic targeted education and events such as Bee Health Days, and

  • promoting good practice and improving standards.
