We offer evening live CPD webinars that are delivered by SRUC Veterinary Investigation Officers, SRUC speakers and external experts. This CPD activity is part of the Outreach for Surveillance and Bitesize CPD programme. The live webinars, which are also recorded, are funded by the Scottish Government and are delivered to UK and overseas veterinary practitioners free of cost.

Note that the webinar recordings will be forward to CPD attendees after each talk and can be accessed through the online CPD academy/free talks section. Please contact us for any queries via the form below.

Wagyu Wellness from Japan to the UK: A Farm Vet's Guide, with Hiroe Asano

Date: 27 May 2025
Time: 7:30pm

Register for this webinar

Description: Wagyu and Wagyu cross cattle and products are on the rise in the UK, with several prominent supermarkets now carrying the meat under their premium brands. These cattle are therefore often new or recent additions to the local herd demographic for many farm practitioners: this interesting breed originated in Japan, and so we are delighted to invite you to this evening CPD presentation to hear more about their management and care from a veterinary perspective, and about the Wagyu beef industry, in Japan.

About the speaker: Hiroe Asano graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Iwate University in 2020, then worked as a cattle veterinarian, mainly with Wagyu cattle, until moving to New Zealand to join the European College of Bovine Health Management residency programme at Massey University. She will be in Scotland for a short trip as part of this residency programme, during which we have been fortunate enough to book her for this presentation.

Due to this tight timeframe, please note that this Zoom webinar will take place during a concurrent live in-person event held in Dumfries, rather than our usual online-only format. There will still be the opportunity to ask questions remotely.

Description: Infectious Keratoconjunctivitis in sheep flocks can be a frustrating and challenging condition for farmers and vets alike. We will discuss the differentials and diagnostic testing options, as well as discuss trends in SRUC submissions in the context of some of the published articles on the topic.

About the speaker: Fiona Crowden graduated from Edinburgh University in 2004 and worked in mixed practice in Caithness and Angus before joining SRUC Veterinary Services in Aberdeen in 2019, initially keeping a foot in practice, and joining SRUC full time in 2021. She gained the RCVS CertAVP in 2022 and has a particular interest in sheep health and production.
