Abrasive Wheels

This training course has been developed to help you understand how to operate an abrasive wheel machine safely. The amount of instruction you will require will depend largely upon your previous experience and sessions will be adapted to meet your needs. If successful in meeting the required standards assessed, you will be awarded a certificate of competence and a Lantra skills ID card.

Full description

The training course will consist of theory and practical sessions, followed by assessment. Course sessions include:

• Abrasive Wheel Safety and the Law
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• The Abrasive Wheel
• Speed
• Inspection, Handling, Transportation and Storage
• Machine and Wheel Components
• Bench Mounted Grinder
• Hand Held Electric Driven Grinder/Disc Cutter
• Bench Mounted Cut-off Saw
• Hand Held Engine Driven Disc Cutter
• Theory Assessment
• Practical Assessment.

What to bring

Safety boots, Eye/face protection, Hearing protection, Dust mask and/or dust extraction equipment, Suitable gloves and Suitable overalls.

Cancellations must be made at least 10 working days prior to the course start date otherwise the full course fee is still payable. In the event that SRUC has to cancel a course for any reason your course fees will be refunded in full or your booking transferred to the next available date if this is suitable.

Certification

This course is Lantra certified but please note that from 1 April 2025 Lantra will no longer be producing Physical Certificates and/or Learner Cards. For Courses delivered after this date we are only sending eCertificates. Learners can order physical copies direct via the Lantra Learner Hub if required.
