Meet the Consultant - Katie Forster

Consultant Katie Forster

I joined SAC Consulting in August 2025, initially providing maternity cover, and have since become a permanent member of the St Boswells team.

Having grown up on my family’s arable farm in the Scottish Borders, agriculture has always been a significant part of my life. Alongside our own arable enterprise, we operate arable contract farming agreements on neighbouring farms as well as providing contract spraying services for our local AD plant, and more latterly, have diversified into B&B weaner pigs. This has given me an appreciation of the variety of challenges and opportunities across different farming systems from an early age. I now live with my fiancé on his mixed arable and beef farm.

Keen to pursue a career within the rural sector, I studied Rural Business Management at SRUC, Edinburgh, once I had left school. I graduated with a First-Class BA (Honours) degree. Following university, I spent three years working for a local land agency, where I gained valuable experience across a range of rural professional work and developed a strong understanding of the issues affecting rural businesses and landowners.

I am involved in Young Farmers having served as secretary of my local club and now hold the position of district secretary. Young Farmers has provided me with lifelong friendships along with invaluable experiences and opportunities to develop my confidence, organisation and leadership skills. One particular highlight was being selected to take part in the Rural and Agri Affairs Study Tour to Texas in 2025. Following an interview process, I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the delegates and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about agriculture on an international scale whilst also making friendships from across Scotland.

Outside of work, you will usually find me out running or in the kitchen baking. I have completed a full marathon and many half marathons with plans for another marathon in the future. Thankfully, running and baking complement each other well, with one helping to offset the effects of the other!

Since joining SAC Consulting, I have enjoyed the variety of work that consultancy offers and the opportunity to work closely with clients from across the agricultural sector. It has been a busy few months supporting clients through IACS and AECS applications. Alongside this, I have enjoyed undertaking carbon audits and advising on the new EFA rules that applied this year. I have been crop walking with colleagues, helped to deliver Scotland’s Farm Advisory Service (FAS) events and completed NVZ plans for clients. I am excited to continue my journey, and I look forward to building my experience and knowledge whilst supporting clients through the opportunities and challenges facing agriculture.
