Our forests and land deliver multiple benefits, often within the same space. Forest Liaison Officers (FLOs) play a key role in helping us realise renewable energy potential, bringing it together with our other objectives to deliver diverse and integrated land management.
As a Forest Liaison Officer (FLO), you will be the main point of contact between an FLS Regional team, the national Renewables team, and developers and their contractors on day-to-day issues regarding these projects.

Main Duties:
- Build and maintain excellent working relationships with FLS colleagues, developers, stakeholders such as community groups, neighbours, statutory consultees, and agreement holders.
- Working within the West Region Team, you will support and assist regional colleagues and national team in general liaison with third parties including agreement holders, such as facilitating permissions for surveys and work to be carried out by them on national forests and land.
- Prepare and provide developers with relevant information held by FLS, and support others in assessing proposals, testing options and revising Land Management Plans.
- Provide support to third parties, internal teams and the Area Land Agent, e.g. gathering and sharing relevant forest related information, mapping, updating records, environmental considerations, details of Land Management Plans, forestry operations, land ownership, land rights and burdens.
- Liaise with third parties over the management of sites and any buildings, carry out site monitoring ensuring FLS’s interests are protected, ensuring legal compliance with legislation and agreements.
- Adhere to FLS national and regional policies and procedures.
The Candidate:
Experience
Essential:
- Relevant knowledge and experience of forest operations, forest management, land management, renewables or construction projects.
- Experience of building strong working relationships with colleagues and a wide range of external stakeholders and regulators.
- Demonstrate experience of working in operational forestry and/or renewables/construction projects.
- Good facilitation, communication and engagement skills; including experience in brokering pragmatic solutions.
Desirable:
- Experience of working with developers, managing tenants, members of the public.
- Experience of project management.
Technical
Essential:
- Competent in use of Microsoft office software.
- The ability to review and accurately interpret leases and agreements.
- Knowledge of legislation relevant in the management of land.
Desirable:
- Experience or suitable qualification related to forestry, renewables and electrical infrastructure, civil engineering, construction or land management.
- Competent user of Geographical Information Systems.
- Familiarity with the planning process, construction project management and CDM Regulations.
- Knowledge of UK Woodland Assurance Standard and environmental standards associated with outdoor project work.
This role requires you to have a full UK driving licence, however we’re willing to consider any proposals that would allow you to do the job by other means.
