The Job:

Would you like to work as part of a great team on this small, specialist plant nursery near Edinburgh? We specialise in growing rare plants from around the world, particularly alpine, woodland and damp-loving plants.
We sell these by mail order, at flower shows and for use in our garden designs. We have won many Gold medals for our displays at the Chelsea Flower Show. As well as being a commercial nursery, we are also a not-for-profit business, offering opportunities to people experiencing disadvantage to work as an integral part of the nursery team.

Propagation Co-ordinator - Kevock Garden Plants

The Role:

  • To take on a wide range of propagation tasks to produce plants on this plant nursery (including seed sowing, pricking out, taking cuttings, potting on, dividing, etc).
  • To oversee/ train others (including both employees and volunteers).
  • To plan & co-ordinate the work of the propagation team and the work in the potting shed.
  • Other tasks on the nursery as required.

The Candidate:

Essential:

  • Team player.
  • Well organised.
  • Knowledge of plants / Experience of working in horticulture.
  • Ability to supervise and share skills with others.
  • Able to undertake physical tasks including lifting boxes of plants, bags of compost, pushing trolleys, etc.


Desirable:

  • Experience of propagation.
  • Experience of planning and coordinating a team.
  • Interested in working out how to grow difficult and demanding plants.
  • Some background in coming alongside people experiencing disadvantage.
  • Ready to seek advice and willing to learn.
  • Experience of training or supervising.
  • Full Driving licence.
