Overview & what's involved

This course is designed for those who have limited experience with sheep and who would like to know more about "lambing time." The training course will be delivered by one of our qualified agriculture instructors. All participants will be awarded a College Certificate of Attendance on completion of the course.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

This is a family friendly course. For insurance purposes, the minimum age is 14 years old.

This course is NOT suitable for pregnant women to attend, as we will be in the lambing shed with pregnant ewes and newborn lambs.

Full description

This course will cover:

Care of the ewe from mid pregnancy
Preparation for lambing
Lambing techniques using the simulator
Lamb revival and survival
Lambing equipment and preparations
Assisted lambing techniques
Fostering methods.

Cancellations must be made at least 10 working days prior to the course start date otherwise the full course fee is still payable. In the event that SRUC has to cancel a course for any reason your course fees will be refunded in full or your booking transferred to the next available date if this is suitable.
