Hi I'm
Dr Peter Richards-Rios
- Position: Veterinary Investigation Officer - Histopathology
- Location: Edinburgh Campus
-
Expertise:
- Climate, Environment and Wildlife
I am a veterinary pathologist with international experience and a passion for uncovering the stories behind animal disease.
After graduating from the University of Bristol in 2014, I began my career in Colombia, working as both a small‑animal veterinary surgeon and a herd‑health consultant. My interest in disease investigation led me back to the UK, where I completed a PhD in Veterinary Microbiology at the University of Liverpool, followed by a residency in Veterinary Pathology.
I joined SRUC Veterinary Services in 2022 and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) in 2023.
Today, I provide expert histopathology for both small and farm animal cases, alongside gross post‑mortem examinations, including forensic investigations on behalf of the SSPCA and Police Scotland.
I also have a unique research interest in invertebrate pathology - particularly diseases affecting snails and honey bees - helping to expand scientific understanding of some of the planet’s smallest but most important species.
