SRUC has begun a search for up to seven non-executive Board Members as part of a planned programme of Board succession and skills renewal aligned to its new strategy.

This is the first time since the creation of SRUC in 2012 that opportunities of this scale have become available to play a leading in the success and growth of SRUC.

The new Board members will join the current cohort in providing high-level strategic oversight to SRUC, as well as ensuring compliance and monitoring arrangements are in place to support the Executive Leadership Team in delivering our ambitious growth strategy. The appointments will be phased through 2026 and 2027.

“Joining the SRUC Board presents an opportunity to become involved and contribute to the future success of an organisation of strategic national importance at a period of significant change within the Tertiary Education Sector and the natural economy in Scotland and beyond,” said Dr Kate Richards, newly elected Chair of the SRUC Board.

Professor Wayne Powell, Principal and Chief Executive, said: “With the launch of our new strategy, bringing in new Board members who are of exceptional calibre and fully aligned to our long-term goals is vital. We are an innovative organisation, with great ambitions for the future, as we seek to tackle major global challenges, deliver economic growth and create tomorrow’s workforce through transformative skills and education.

“We need Board members who share our ambition and sense of purpose.”

SRUC is particularly seeking candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas;

  • audit and risk governance,
  • tertiary education, skills, research, innovation and international collaboration,
  • rural and land-based sectors, including current farming experience,
  • digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence and cyber resilience,
  • equality, diversity and inclusion,
  • innovation, commercialisation and entrepreneurship,
  • strategic communications, stakeholder engagement and organisational reputation.

SRUC also welcomes candidates who can demonstrate experience of collaborative working across industry, government, academia and communities, to deliver place based regional economic growth and renewal.
