Conference to explore “Innovation in Integration” for rural resilience
This year’s Future Landscape Conference will bring together researchers, land managers, students and community members from across rural industries to discuss collaborative approaches to future environmental and land management challenges.
Hosted by SRUC’s School of Natural and Social Sciences at the Barony Campus, the event will feature guest speakers, trade stalls, poster displays, presentations, workshops and panel discussions, while there will also be a prize for the best academic poster.
The School of Natural and Social Sciences Future Landscape Conference: Innovation in Integration: Building Resilient Futures Through Collaboration, will highlight the opportunities created by closer collaboration both within the School and across the wider rural sector.
Current contributors include representatives from Peatland Action, SRUC’s Rural Policy Centre and Dr Marie Martin, Community Land Scotland, with further speakers to be announced in the coming months
Professor Davy McCracken, Deputy Head of the School of Natural and Social Sciences, said: “Ongoing climate change means that our land management systems need to adapt to become more resilient to extreme events. Nature-based solutions can not only help with that adaptation but also help address biodiversity declines. This is the second conference in a series designed to bring land-based industries together to learn from each other and showcase some of the positive approaches being taken to meet future challenges.”
The conference is aimed at anyone who lives in, works on or studies rural landscapes, and welcomes professionals from all industries, landowners, community members, researchers and students.
It takes place from 10am-4pm (registration 9.30am) at the SRUC Barony Campus near Dumfries on Friday 16 October.
Tickets, which include lunch and refreshments, are now on sale via the SRUC Eventbrite page
Early Bird ticket sales are available until 21 July, with student tickets also available.
