The second year of the Golf Development pathway programme advances students’ knowledge through critical analysis and strategic application, focusing on the sustainable growth of the game, golf tourism development, and business management within the golf sector. Building on foundational principles, students examine participation data, evaluate development strategies, and assess the effectiveness of initiatives led by organisations such as The R&A and national governing bodies. Emphasis is placed on identifying structural barriers to participation, promoting inclusion, and designing evidence-informed strategies that enhance community engagement and long-term growth.
Students also explore golf as a driver of tourism and regional economic impact, analysing destination development, event strategy, and consumer behaviour within competitive visitor markets. Alongside this, the programme develops strategic management capabilities, including governance evaluation, financial sustainability, innovative membership models, environmental responsibility, and performance measurement. Learners are expected to interpret industry data, apply key performance indicators, and construct well-justified recommendations supported by academic research.
Through applied projects, case studies, and strategic planning exercises, the programme equips students with the analytical, research, and professional skills required to contribute to sustainable, inclusive, and commercially viable golf development at local, national, and international levels.
This course is also offered as a Golf Course Management pathway.
