The Golf Development Pathway provides students with a broad foundation in growing the game of golf, developing golf tourism, and understanding the sustainable management of golf as a business. The programme introduces the structure of the golf industry and examines the roles of governing bodies such as The R&A in supporting participation and global development. Students explore strategies to increase community engagement, widen access, and address barriers to participation across different demographic groups.
Alongside development theory, the programme considers the economic and cultural significance of golf tourism, analysing how destinations, events, and facilities contribute to regional development and visitor economies. Students are introduced to core principles of sport marketing, customer experience, and destination branding within the context of golf.
A strong emphasis is placed on sustainable business management. Learners examine environmental stewardship, financial sustainability, governance structures, and responsible resource management within golf clubs and facilities. By integrating sport development, tourism, and business foundations, the first year equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to the long-term growth, inclusivity, and sustainability of the golf industry.
This course is also offered as a Golf Course Management pathway.
