Year 1 of the Golf Course Management pathway provides a strong foundation in the principles and practices that underpin modern golf course operations. Students are introduced to turfgrass science, soil management, plant biology, and the environmental factors that influence course condition and playability. Alongside technical knowledge, the programme develops an understanding of sustainability, resource management, and the ecological responsibilities associated with land-based sport facilities.
Through a blend of applied learning and academic study, students explore core greenkeeping operations, health and safety, machinery awareness, and the fundamentals of course presentation. Emphasis is placed on understanding how environmental stewardship and industry best practice shape contemporary golf management. Students also begin developing essential academic and professional skills, including research literacy, data handling, communication, and reflective practice.
By the end of Year 1, learners will have built a solid grounding in the science and operations of golf course management, preparing them to progress into more advanced study in agronomy, sustainable management, and leadership within the golf industry.
This course is also offered as a Golf Development pathway.
