The Sustainable Golf Management and Degree provides a progressive, industry-focused education across four years (SCQF Levels 7–10), equipping students to lead within the modern golf sector.
In Year 1, students gain foundational knowledge of golf governance, participation growth, community engagement, tourism, and club operations, alongside an introduction to sustainability and turf management principles. Organisations such as The R&A are examined to understand how the game is structured and developed globally.
Year 2 develops analytical and strategic capability. Students evaluate participation trends, inclusion strategies, tourism development, financial sustainability, stakeholder management, and performance measurement, applying theory to real industry scenarios. Turf management studies expand to include environmental stewardship and operational planning.
Year 3 integrates advanced commercial strategy, governance, ethical leadership, and sustainable golf facility management. Emphasis is placed on agronomy, biodiversity, climate resilience, and resource-efficient course operations, alongside revenue diversification and global industry trends.
The Honours Year focuses on independent research and strategic leadership. Students undertake a dissertation or industry consultancy project addressing a contemporary issue such as sustainable turf innovation, golf tourism strategy, participation growth, or environmental policy. Graduates emerge with advanced analytical expertise, research competence, and the strategic insight required to shape a sustainable and commercially viable future for the golf industry.
Pathways:
At entry, you can choose between two pathways:
- Golf Course Management (GCM) – building on the industry-recognised SQA HNC/D, this pathway retains essential technical knowledge while integrating sustainability and best practice in modern course management.
- Golf Development – focusing on sport development models, club and facility management, entrepreneurship, and sustainable business practice, this pathway provides an alternative route for those passionate about growing the game.
At Stages 1 and 2, you will study four core units alongside two pathway-specific units. At BSc/BSc (Hons) level, the two pathways come together, giving all students the chance to share learning, collaborate, and explore the wider issues shaping the future of golf.
