Meet the Consultant - Lynne Carrick
I am Lynne Carrick, and I joined SAC Consulting in May 2025 as a Trainee Agricultural Consultant, working at the Ayr Office. I grew up on a dairy farm, so have always had an interest in agriculture - I would often do the milking before heading off to high school and even now continue to relief milk at weekends. After many years of wanting to study accountancy, I changed my mind and applied for Agriculture.
I started with SRUC in 2015 when I went to study at the Ayr campus, achieving a BSc (Hons) degree in Agriculture. During my time at university, I continued to work on two dairy farms whilst attending classes and completing essays. In my forth year, I was involved with a study taking place at the Crichton dairy unit and completed a dissertation on how different outwintering methods effect the lameness of replacement dairy heifers.
Following on from university I joined the animal feed company, Galloway and MacLeod as a Sales Nutritionist. This role involved me travelling around Inverclyde, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire as well as a run down the motorway from Sanquhar to Dalbeattie.
During my time at Galloway and MacLeod, I met a lot of farmers and gained valuable insights into farming systems and practices. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my customers and their livestock systems. I sold a variety of different products including feed, fertiliser and minerals etc. A big part of my job was identifying farmer needs on each farm road end I went up and working alongside them to find a product or solution to best meet their need. As part of my role, I was also involved in rationing and diet formulation for clients, something which I am keen to continue with SAC Consulting. Latterly I was involved in the formulations of Galloway and MacLeod’s own feeds. I also carried out silage and soil sampling for clients, both of which I can use going forward, to serve my current clients.
A career with SAC Consulting appealed to me because of the variety of work that goes with the role and the range of services that are offered to clients. I have already so far been involved in a variety of client work including nutrient budgeting and carbon audits.
I have a keen interest in nutrition and dairying and look forward to developing these areas of interest and my current skillset with my new role in the Ayr consulting office. I am looking forward to rationing work as we progress into the winter months.
Out with work I have been actively involved with my local young farmers having been a Chairman and Secretary for Kilmaurs & District YFC as well as Ayrshire Secretary. I am now enjoying the road to my retirement with all things young farmers and enjoying having more time to see friends and family, while trying to complete my couch to 5k app for the umpteenth time!
