The Job:

Peter Marshall & Co are entering an exciting period of growth, with ambitious expansion plans over the next five years. As part of this development, we are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Horticulture Supervisor to support our fruit production and crop management operations.
This role is ideal for someone with a horticulture degree, agricultural qualification, or strong interest in plant science and crop production who is keen to gain hands-on experience within a progressive, large-scale fruit farming business.

The position can be offered as either:

  • A full-time permanent role, or
  • A summer seasonal position, ideal for a graduate or student seeking practical industry experience.

The Company:

We are Peter Marshall & Co., and we are a fourth-generation family farming business, based in Alyth Perthshire.

Our main focus is on fresh produce. We grow Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Cherries, Blackcurrants, Redcurrants. Aside from growing fresh fruit, we also grow Potatoes, Wheat, Oats, Oil Seed Rape and Malting Barley.

We have a small shop near Alyth, selling our fruit and vegetables all year round, and freshly made ice cream in the summer.

We are Red Tractor Certified, Leaf Marque Certified and members of Sedex.

The role: 

Working closely with the farm management and technical teams, you will support crop production, plant health, irrigation coordination and general horticultural operations across the farm.

This is a hands-on, field-based role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to develop their technical understanding of commercial fruit production.

Key Responsibilities:

Crop & Plant Health Management

  • Monitor crop growth, fruit development and overall plant condition
  • Identify and report signs of pest, disease or nutrient deficiencies
  • Support implementation of crop protection and plant health programmes
  • Assist with pruning, training and canopy management activities.

Irrigation & Nutrition Support

  • Work alongside irrigation teams to monitor water delivery and crop response
  • Assist with fertigation and nutrition programmes
  • Record and track crop performance data.

Field Operations

  • Support day-to-day horticultural tasks across orchards and fields
  • Ensure high standards of crop care and field hygiene
  • Help maintain equipment and tools used in crop management.

Data & Continuous Improvement

  • Record crop observations and production data
  • Assist with trials, crop assessments and performance monitoring
  • Contribute ideas to improve plant performance and operational efficiency.

The Candidate:

Essential

  • Degree (or studying towards) in Horticulture, Agriculture, Crop Science or related field
    OR strong practical experience and interest in horticulture
  • Passion for plant health and commercial crop production
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Desirable

  • Experience in fruit production or commercial horticulture
  • Understanding of irrigation systems and crop nutrition
  • BASIS or FACTS qualification (or interest in working towards)
  • Machinery or tractor experience (beneficial but not essential).
