Course content:
This course aims to host an interactive workshop day to gain confidence and knowledge of UK beef production, the importance of good balanced nutrition and the role of the vet in disease in risk management. We plan to make this interactive with break out groups and discussion amongst all vets attending.
The day will be split in two:
Morning:
- Health planning: What, why, and how?
- Nutrition:
- Basic understanding of nutritional requirements of suckler cows, growing and finishing cattle.
- The on-farm practicalities of feeding systems and management.
- How nutrition ties in with clinical disease or poor performance from a veterinary perspective.
- Metabolic profiling for suckler cows
- Basic understanding of nutritional requirements of suckler cows, growing and finishing cattle.
Afternoon:
- What to include in a health plan:
- Fertility KPIs and how can the vet help
- Infectious disease risk management considering how to make the health plan proactive and not tick box; Adding value to the farm.
- Fertility KPIs and how can the vet help
