SRUC appoints new strategy director
SRUC has made a new appointment to its senior management team, who will have a key role in helping to deliver the organisation’s recently unveiled five-year strategy.
Currently Chief Operating Officer at the Scottish Funding Council, Martin Boyle will take up his new position as SRUC’s Director of Strategy, Governance & Engagement in June.
Martin was previously the Interim Chief Executive of SFC, a position he held for seven months, helping to shape the initial thinking around the simplification of the funding body landscape.
Prior to this, Martin was Director of Planning, Insight and Analytics at the University of Glasgow, leading the introduction of university wide data analytics as well as a range of other change projects.
Martin has also held a number of roles in the Scottish Government, including heading up the Higher Education Policy Division.
“It’s a huge privilege to join SRUC at a time of significant change for the institution,” said Martin. “With the launch of a new strategy and the recent opening of a new vet school, it’s clear that there are exciting times ahead. I look forward to being part of the team leading this change and ensuring that SRUC is well placed to meet the needs of all its stakeholders.”
Professor Wayne Powell, Principal and Chief Executive of SRUC, said: “This is an outstanding appointment to a critical new position.
“Martin will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to SRUC as we deliver our new strategy. In addition to his time at the Scottish Funding Council, he has also held a number of roles in the Scottish Government, including heading up the Higher Education Policy Division.”
Martin’s appointment follows the departure of Christine Milburn, Director of Strategic Delivery and Growth, who is leaving SRUC for a new role at the University of Aberdeen.
Prof Powell added: “Christine has contributed enormously to SRUC’s future with her work on the strategy to 2031. We are sorry to see her go but wish her the very best in her new role at the University of Aberdeen. Martin will carry on Christine’s excellent work and provide leadership which shapes our strategic direction and ensures our institution delivers on our vision and long‑term objectives.”
