SRUC

There is a growing interest in food production, reflecting not only the quantity produced but also its quality in terms of efficiency, food miles, carbon footprint, nutrient use, ethics, environment and the link with health and socio-economics of both producers and consumers.

Organic farming is a form of sustainable food production which is legally defined and certified through quality assurance schemes. Food sold as organic therefore has a legal requirement to meet these standards, demonstrated by organic certification. Global sales of organic food are increasing, and the EU has a target of 25% target of EU agricultural land under organic farming by 2030.

SRUC’s online postgraduate programme in Organic Farming offers the opportunity to develop an understanding of the key technical production, marketing and management aspects of organic farming and food.

The programme is offered from postgraduate certificate to MSc level, and is validated by the University of Glasgow.

For more information, the Irish Organic Association (IOA) has published an article on SRUC's Organic Farming courses.
