The aim of the course is to give you a comprehensive introduction to the golf industry with specific focus on key employment areas of coaching, caddying, retail, fitness and organising competitions.

Throughout the course you’ll be based at SRUC Elmwood’s unique facilities, including an 18-hole golf course and state of the art practice facilities. From this base you will develop your performance and coaching of beginners.

Entry requirements

Three National 4 preferably including English.

Evidence of regular participation in golf, for example membership and handicap.

Meet the lecturer

Fraser Hutchison

MSc: Specialising in student-athlete transitions from College in the UK into the US College Golf System.

Fraser is passionate about helping students develop their skills in the classroom and on the golf course.

Before his career in teaching, he went to college in New Mexico and then Virginia Commonwealth University on golf scholarships, where he competed on the US College Golf circuit. He also worked for the European Tour in event management and helped student golfers at our Elmwood Campus, as well as juniors across Europe.

Course Funding

Full-time students of Certificate Professional Golf can apply for a Further Education Bursary.

Once you’ve accepted a place, we’ll email the bursary funding online application. Complete the application and return it along with any required documents. You should apply even if you're still waiting for exam results.

Tuition fees are waived for students who qualify for a bursary.

Other possible routes to funding

Care experienced bursary: Any care experienced students studying full time can apply for a bursary of around £202.50 per week. Find out more from our student funding teams at registryfunding@SRUC.ac.uk.
Education Maintenance Allowance: Students between the ages of 16-19 who meet specific criteria may be entitled to an EMA. This means-tested allowance depends on the income of the home the student stays in.
