PhD Title

Rafael SilvaModelling sustainable intensification in Brazilian agriculture: integrating crop livestock systems with emissions mitigation

PhD Supervisors

Prof Dominic Moran (SRUC) and Dr. Julian Hall (University of Edinburgh)

I hold a bachelor degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics (2010) and master degree in Applied Mathematics, both by the University of Campinas, Brazil. During my masters I worked in the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), as a trainee researcher.

My PhD will focus on the modelling of sustainable intensification of beef production systems in Brazil. Mitigation measures, e.g. pasture restoration, Integrated Crop-Livestock (ICL) systems, among others, will be evaluated. Regarding the mathematical background, I will use Large Scale Linear Programing techniques.
