Nearly fifty delegates and speakers from a range of organisations gathered at the Edinburgh Campus of Scotland’s Rural College recently for a Veterinary Microbiology Workshop.
The workshop – organised by SAC Consulting Veterinary Services – covered a range of topics which included the evaluation of new technologies used in diagnostic work, emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance and the identification of organisms.
Alan Wainwright, the Executive Head of Education at the Institute of Biomedical Science, also gave a presentation which covered Continuing Professional Development, vocational qualifications for laboratory support staff and the voluntary professional registers for scientists and support staff.
As well as staff from SAC Consulting there were also delegates from the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency, the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute of Northern Ireland and event sponsor Oxoid, part of Thermo Fisher.
Event organiser, Dawn Alderson, the SAC Consulting Veterinary Services Functional Manager for Training and Education, said:
"The workshop proved to be a valuable opportunity for networking with colleagues, as well as providing an update on issues relevant to, and raising the profile of, Veterinary Disease Surveillance across the UK."
