The Hospitality Department at the Elmwood Campus of Scotland’s Rural College has been shortlisted for the Catering in Scotland (CIS) Excellence in Hospitality Education Award.
The winner will be announced on 29 May at a dinner at the Glasgow Hilton.
There are twelve CIS Excellence awards and the Education category, sponsored by Premier Foods, is open to all catering and hospitality departments within Scottish educational institutions. Elmwood is selected alongside City of Glasgow College, The Edinburgh School of Food and Wine and Perth College UHI.
It is the first time that Elmwood has featured in the final since the merger and the selection panel were apparently very interested in the department’s emphasis on the use of local produce, the farm to fork ethos and links with local food businesses. They were also interested in the product development carried out for small Scottish food businesses and their links, through SAC Consulting, with initiatives like Think Local and bodies such as the Food Standards Agency.
A delighted Vicki Munro, Hospitality Team Leader, said:
“We are proud of the courses we deliver and the quality of those we train. We also believe the additional role we play in supporting Scotland’s food industry through our links with colleagues like the SAC Consulting Food Marketing team makes us very special."
