Two students from Scotland's Rural College, studying at the Elmwood Campus, have qualified for the Scottish Student Sport badminton ladies’ doubles Cup Final.
Chelsea Irvine, 18, from Kirkcaldy, and Elissa Nicholson, 17, from Leven, both NC Sport and Fitness students, recently spent a day competing against other Scottish Colleges in the East Regional Qualifiers.
The event is organised by Scottish Student Sport, the coordinating body for all student sport and physical activity in Scotland. The organisation is made up of a network of students, staff and volunteers who work in partnership to create positive opportunities and experiences through physical activity and sport, across Scotland’s universities and colleges.
Chelsea said: “I’m very surprised to have made it this far but I’m excited and looking forward to the challenge”.
Elissa added: “We have competed against some tough competition, but we have had a lot of support from Donald Mackay, the Sport and Fitness Co-ordinator. We have been practicing every day we have been in college.”
Donald said: “I’m delighted for Chelsea and Elissa. This is the fourth year in a row Elmwood has had representation in the finals. It is a great opportunity for the students to test themselves against the best athletes within Scotland’s colleges and universities.”
The final will be held on 30 April at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, in Motherwell.
Both Chelsea and Elissa plan to continue their studies at SRUC Elmwood, progressing to study for an HNC in Coaching and Developing Sport.
