The National Equestrian Centre based at SRUC's Oatridge campus recently hosted an event with two direct qualifying tickets for the final of the Prestigious Horse of the Years show up for grabs.
The third EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers second round was held at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre and attracted an entry of 50 starting combinations. They all came with the aim of taking home one of the tickets to the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final in London.
From all those starters, 8 produced clear rounds and made it through into the final jump off where 4 achieved a treble clear with final placing’s allocated according to their times.
The winner was 32 year-old Nicola McArthur from Dunfermline, Fife. Nicola was on board Amaretto VI, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by David Kerr. Their third clear round in 39.61 seconds put them a second ahead of the next combination, 30 year-old Simon Buckley from Kendal, Cumbria on Delinquent JX, a 6 year-old black gelding. They had jumped a third clear in a time of 40.63 seconds.
Meanwhile, Class 13 included two wild card qualifying places for this year’s Royal Highland Show. Scott Brash, one of the gold medallists from the London Olympics, competed on “Hello My Lady” owned by Lady Pauline Harris and Lady Pauline Kirkham. He came second behind Douglas Duffin riding Jordan Thompson’s ‘World Star’. Both riders will be in action in the Power & Performance RHS Grade C Championship Final at Ingliston in the coming days.
