Louise Bulmer, the Equine Programme Leader at SRUC Oatridge has received industry recognition for her presentation at a recent top conference.
Louise was awarded ‘Best Oral Presentation’ at the European
Workshop on Equine Nutrition (EWEN) conference which was held in Dijon, France.
The conference - which was attended by 200 delegates from
countries as far afield as Brazil and Australia - is the leading international
conference for equine nutrition.
The special focus of this year’s conference was gut
microbiology and its relation to health, welfare and performance.
Louise presented results from the first part of her PhD
which is focusing on the effects of diet on the behaviour of horses. Her presentation
was entitled: “The effects of a high-starch or high-fibre diet on the behaviour
of naïve ponies.”
This award means that Louise is given complimentary
attendance at the next EWEN conference which is being held in Uppsala, Sweden.
Louise said: “I am literally over the moon at winning this
award. It is fantastic to have the research I am doing recognised by leading
