Louise Bulmer, the Equine Programme Leader at SRUC Oatridge has received industry recognition for her presentation at a recent top conference.

Louise was awarded ‘Best Oral Presentation’ at the European Workshop on Equine Nutrition (EWEN) conference which was held in Dijon, France.

The conference - which was attended by 200 delegates from countries as far afield as Brazil and Australia - is the leading international conference for equine nutrition.

The special focus of this year’s conference was gut microbiology and its relation to health, welfare and performance.

Louise presented results from the first part of her PhD which is focusing on the effects of diet on the behaviour of horses. Her presentation was entitled: “The effects of a high-starch or high-fibre diet on the behaviour of naïve ponies.”

This award means that Louise is given complimentary attendance at the next EWEN conference which is being held in Uppsala, Sweden.

Louise said: “I am literally over the moon at winning this award. It is fantastic to have the research I am doing recognised by leading international experts.

“I’m very much looking forward to attending the next EWEN conference in Sweden - where I will hopefully be given the opportunity to present the next stage of my work.”
