Oatridge Annual Awards Ceremony 2014

The recent Annual Awards Ceremony at SRUC Oatridge Campus saw staff, students and their families come together to celebrate the year’s successes.

More than 180 students from all over Scotland completed their courses at SRUC Oatridge this year and all were invited to applaud the achievement of their peers.

Twenty-five learners received the accolade of ‘top student’ in their year group. Prizes were given in all the main subjects including agriculture and engineering, animal care, countryside management, equine studies and farriery and horticulture and landscaping.

David James, Assistant Principal FE and Dean of Oatridge Campus, welcomed the audience and said: “At today’s ceremony we are marking the success of those students who have undertaken National Certificate and SVQs programmes on the campus but also students who have won campus specific awards at HNC/HND level.

“The Annual Awards Ceremony is the highlight of the academic year and is an opportunity to celebrate the achievement of our students following their hard work and commitment."

The winning students received their prizes from Professor David McKenzie, SRUC Vice Principal Education, who talked about the quality of learning that the students receive at SRUC. He said: “In two recent, very important national quality reviews of our education, we have received the highest possible rankings. We are particularly pleased that the employability of our students was so strongly recognised in the Education Scotland Report on our Further Education."

Amongst those receiving their prizes was Bryan Gove who was named top student in SVQ3 Engineering 2013/14. Bryan, who works at Netherton Tractors in Glenrothes, said: “I’ve been able to bring all that theoretical and practical experience from the College back to the job and it has all helped me significantly.”

Alistair Tully, Student Association Campus Officer, finished the evening with a vote of thanks which was followed by rousing applause for all the students’ hard work.
