Memories:

  • Happy times at 41.5 Union Street, Marischal College.
  • Students Union on a Saturday.
  • Evening jazz in the cellar bar then over to Marischal Hall to dance.
  • Early morning baps on the fish quay.
  • NZ All Blacks in the beer bar, that was a great night!

Inspiring:

I was interested in the course and enjoyed working with my fellow students who were a great crowd. I qualified with the National Diploma in Agriculture (NDA) and the Scottish Diploma Agriculture (SDA) and went into farm management on a great estate and loved it.

Been up to:

I farm managed for six years and then became a Farm Advisor for land agents for two years, after that I went back to Bristol Vet School for six years and qualified for the MRCVS 1978. I joined mixed practice and was quickly offered a partnership and stayed in practice there for 22 years. I loved it but got too old for 24 hour cover so I retired for five weeks and felt a bit lost so I went to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food just before the foot & mouth outbreak in 2001 and stayed there as a Local Veterinary Inspector until I was 70. My whole working life was perfect for me and I still miss it now, though I am definitely too old.

Classmates:

I have telephone contact with Geoff Eastwood and James Anderson, both are great guys.

Words of wisdom:

If you wish to do it badly enough, persevere at it and it can turn out as you wish. My life has been perfect for me and I hope it continues for a long time yet. I try to encourage all students to do their best and if you are not satisfied keep going forward and persevere.
