CAP Reform

The pages within this area outline how the Scottish Government are implementing the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) from 2015 and some of the expertise that SRUC has within our Research and SAC Consulting Divisions.

Information on past work that has informed policy makers decisions on the options, and ongoing activities that affect policies such as moving from an historic payment system to an area based system will have on our rural landscape, are also included in this area.

In June 2014 The Cabinet Secretary announced Scottish Government proposal for implementing the new CAP from 2015.  SRUC's Agricultural Economist Steven Thomson has produced a diagram to help depict the main elements of the new CAP, which came into force on 1 January 2015, (see the image above).

This provides estimates of the amount of the total budget (€587 million) being spent under each measure and the approximate rates that farmers will receive. These elements are explained in more detail in the sections indicated below.

For more specific advice on how CAP will affect your farm please visit the SAC Consulting area and contact your local advisor.
