This study reviews recent rural policies and rural policy-making processes in
Scotland and England. This is a timely moment to consider these issues in both
countries given the continuing economic downturn, the challenges of public
sector funding cuts and the emphasis being placed on carbon reduction.
The OECD has carried out reviews of rural policy in both countries recently
(2008 in Scotland and 2011 in England) and this study compares the main findings
of these reviews and explores the key developments in rural policy in both
countries since the reviews were undertaken.
A research report has been produced from the study comparing the key findings
of the OECD reviews. Two policy briefings discuss the key developments in rural
policy in Scotland and England since the reviews were undertaken. These are all
available in the download section.
