This Research Briefing investigated the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) approach to developing a low carbon rural economy. It looked at the scheme's efficiency, effectiveness, decision making, governance and management structure and conducted a number of stakeholder interviews.
The research was conducted as part of the Scottish Government's Strategic Research Programme under the Economic Adaptation Theme in Programme 1 (Environmental Change). This briefing highlights the need for consistent policy and governmental support to develop secure and affordable infrastructures to export electricity efficiently.
