Careers and Employment
You will gain knowledge and skills depending on your choice of elective subjects. Whichever you choose, you will be equipped for careers in a wide range of areas. For example:
Those who choose to supplement their business core subjects with modules of an agricultural focus will be well prepared for a career in the diverse agricultural sector. Past graduates have developed successful businesses based on family farms, or gone on to diverse careers such as grain trader, Scottish Government officer, or auctioneer.
Some students choose an animal-related focus to their studies and these students will prepare themselves for careers in horse business management, veterinary practice management and the animal related supply sector. Graduates in this area combine practical animal experience with specialist business knowledge and industry experience.
Other students focus on land or estate management modules, and prepare themselves for rewarding and varied careers in this sector. Other Rural Business graduates have set up in farm consultancy or entrepreneurial activity related to sustainable energy.
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has formally recognised the value of these SRUC courses. When you graduate with a Rural Business Management degree you are eligible for professional membership of the CMI, at either Associate or Member level.
