Agriculture

The agricultural and poultry industries are primarily concerned with the production of basic foodstuffs on farms, but also include the supply of inputs for farming such as fertiliser, seeds, animal feeds and machinery.

In addition, agriculture is becoming increasingly integrated with other sectors of the food chain such as processing, distribution and retailing, to form the agri-food industry.

This broader industry is one of the largest in the UK, accounting for over 10% in both employment and Gross Domestic Product.

Agriculture and poultry courses at SRUC consider the wider agri-food industry, with the focus on production agriculture and related issues such as countryside protection and animal welfare.
