Antimicrobials and Food production: Should we be worried?

Antimicrobials (AM) are largely used for preventative and therapeutic purposes in livestock. However, evidence suggests that AMs are largely used in response to inadequate health and biosecurity in animals, and careless/widespread use of AM is contributing to antimicrobial resistance. AMR is the quintessential planetary One Health challenge, threatening the well-being of animals and humans alike by reducing the effective prevention of an ever-increasing range of infections. 

The event

SRUC, along with the Moredun Research Institute and the Rowett Institute will be hosting a free full-day conference on AM and food production. Funded by SEFARI, this conference will features the latest findings of a number of research projects that are mainly funded by the Scottish Government's Strategic Research Programme 2016-2021, and will bring together academic, policy and food industry stakeholders policy to exchange knowledge and raise awareness with respect to ongoing research linked to AMR in livestock production. This conference will also feature keynote speeches covering various aspects with respect to tackling AMR, as well as posters reflecting past and on-going research. There will also be an opportunity for poster presentations.
