Kate graduated from the R(D)SVS and worked as a farm animal vet in Aberdeenshire, a partner in a large mixed practice. Kate left to join a pharmaceutical company, working initially as a veterinary advisor and then as a marketing manager, gaining a Diploma in Marketing en route. Joining Defra in 2003 as a veterinary advisor, Kate has had a number of senior positions across Whitehall including HMRC and the Cabinet Office and promoted to the Senior Civil Service as Principal Private Secretary 2009 - 2012 for three Secretaries of State for Scotland. Kate was on the Council for the British Cattle Veterinary Association for seven years and maintains an interest in livestock health and production.
Kate is a Board member of the Moredun Foundation, a Trustee of the British Veterinary Association’s Animal Welfare Foundation and was previously a Board member of Defra’s Animal Health Audit and Risk Committee. Kate lives in London where she enjoys writing, singing and photography.
