Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirements

Health Planning for the Beef Herd course

To provide for veterinary practitioners who need to keep abreast of new knowledge relevant to their work, and to encourage an environment where the learning process continues long after initial qualification, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) states that:

"The recommended minimum for continuing professional development (CPD) is 105 hours over a rolling three year period with an average of 35 hours per year. Of this, a maximum of 10 hours may be categorised as distance learning or home study."

For more information see RCVS Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or log in to your RCVS Professional Development Record.

The Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI) states that:

“Continuing Veterinary Education will be mandatory for renewing a licence to practise from 1 January 2012 and annually thereafter. All registrants renewing their licence to practise will need to have achieved the required number of credits in the preceeding CVE credit year 1 August  to 31 July.”
