The Monogastric Science Research Centre (MSRC) undertakes work at SRUC’s Pig and Poultry Units. Both units host contract research for government and private sectors and provide a focus for SRUC's porcine and avian-related research, technology transfer and education. Focusing on nutrition, health and welfare, the units also provides a consultancy service in veterinary and environmental audits (including impact assessments).
About the Poultry Unit
SRUC’s Poultry Unit has government-approved modern and flexible research facilities that encompass the key areas of Breeding, Laying, Hatching, Growing and Processing.
The facilities can be used for studying nutrition, physiology, behaviour, health and welfare of poultry. Facilities for the following are available:
- Breeding – manipulation of the environment, diet and genotype.
- Laying – manipulation of the environment, diet and genotype.
- Hatching – manipulation of the environment and/or the egg.
- Growing – manipulation of the environment, diet and genotype.
- Processing – whole carcass preparation and portioning.
