Research interests

In 2015, I graduated with an MSci in Veterinary Biosciences from the University of Glasgow. During my degree I completed a year’s industrial placement within the Research and Development department at Aviagen. This provided an opportunity for me to be involved in a variety of projects which primarily focused on avian physiology and I became fascinated with its impact on bird health and welfare.

I am currently undertaking a BBSRC CASE studentship as part of the Animal Behaviour and Welfare team. The overall aim of the project is to improve our understanding of avian appetite regulation and apply this to the formulation of commercial diets.

My current research interests include avian behaviour, with a focus on; activity level, feeding/re-directed feeding and comfort behaviours. I am also interested in the nutrient-gut-brain pathway and how this may affect behaviour.

Selected research projects

  • Understanding Satiety in Broiler Breeders during Rearing and Application to Commercial Diets
