The application of drone technology for precision agriculture and the environment

  • Simon Gibson-Poole (Post Doctoral – Technology and Information Systems, SRUC)
    An overview of how drones can be used to aid potato production through disease detection, including ways of detecting blackleg, and an update on new projects in collaboration with SASA.
  • Anna Florence (Post Doctoral – Research Associate in Crop Physiology, SRUC)
    An overview of how drones and satellites can be used to diagnose yield limitations in winter wheat and to help identify ways of enhancing crop growth.
  • Alistair Hamilton (Course Director EP and M Msc, SRUC)
    An overview of how drones can be used for environmental and conservation management, including invasive non-native vegetation surveys and river restoration to improve salmon habitat.
  • Tom Wade (Pilot/Manager Airborne GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh)
    An overview of the use of light aircraft, an update on current drone regulations, and some insights into the future of drone technology (beyond visual line of sight flights and full autonomy).
