In a world littered with news, opinions and “experts”, it is sometimes hard to sift out facts from fake news.

Communicating environmental and climate change research is no exception and has had its fair share of controversies. As 2050 – the year the European Parliament is aiming for net-zero emissions – draws ever closer, the need to communicate these urgencies is becoming ever more crucial.

Have we learned anything from how to communicate during a pandemic, and can we translate this when communicating climate change?

In this webinar we delve into the problems of communicating science and discuss why we can be prone to listening to fake news.

Join us and share your ideas with our panel of speakers, where our host, Professor Eileen Wall, head of research at SRUC, will be discussing these questions with our two speakers:

  • Tracey Brown is the director of Sense about Science and under her leadership the charity has turned the case for sound science and evidence into popular campaigns to urge scientific thinking among the public and the people who answer to them
  • Professor Stephan Lewandowsky is the chair of chair of cognitive psychology at the School of Psychological Science at Bristol University. His recent research has focused on the public’s understanding of science and why people embrace beliefs that are often at odds with the scientific evidence.

Our speakers will each give a 10 to 15-minute presentation, afterwards, we will have a Q&A where we will invite you to ask questions and share your thoughts.
