SRUC Training Courses: Pesticide Application: PA6 Ecoplugs and Stem Injection

Safe use of and application of Pesticide (PA6) using pedestrian hand held equipment for Stem Injection and the use of eco plugs.
This course is suitable for those working in forestry, agriculture, horticulture or greenkeeping where the use of pesticide is required. It is based around the National Proficiency Test Council PA6 (Hand Held Applicators) Test and is designed to help people to successfully prepare for their tests.

The two methods below have been combined into a one day training course, followed by an NPTC assessment on a later date. (Units 155 and 156)

Stump plugs
These have been developed for the use in stumps to prevent regrowth. It can be used on stumps such as buddleia, rhododendrons etc.
It is particularly useful to treat stumps in difficult to access areas where returning to deal with regrowth is an issue. This method can be used when it is raining, snowing and even frost without run off as the application method ensures that the product is retained within the stump.
Stem Injection
This method of pesticide application is becoming more popular, particularly near water for treating Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed as only the target plant is affected. In today’s environmentally aware climate it is a much more friendly method of application as it does not broadcast the product into the air. By using injection the risk of contamination to surrounding areas is eliminated.
