SRUC Training Courses: First Aid at Work Refresher

Accrediting Body



The course enables your employees to renew their certificate before it expires. Successful cadidates are awarded an SQA Approved 'First Aid At Work' certificate which is valid for a further three years.

What is Involved?

Understanding the role of the first-aider including reference to:(i) the importance of preventing cross-infection;(ii) the need for recording incidents and actions;(iii) use of available equipment;

•Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
•Administering first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
•Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation
•Administering first aid to a casualty who is choking
•Administering first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
•Administering first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
•Providing appropriate first aid for minor injuries
Administering First Aid to a casualty with:
- injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
- chest injuries
- burns and scalds
- eye injuries
- sudden poisoning
- anaphylactic shock

Recognising the presence of major illness and providing appropriate First Aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes)

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have completed formal training in this discipline and show evidence of this.

Certification/Award on Completion

Formal Certification is gained on completion of this course and is valid for three years.

£180.00 per person. Course fees include training, assessment and registration fees. Please note there is no VAT on our training.

Individual Training Accounts will open on Monday 13 January 2020.

This phase of the scheme will accept up to 10,000 new applications.

SDS Individual Training Accounts (ITA)

You may be eligible for part funding to support the cost of this course.

Get up to £200 towards the cost of a training course with an SDS Individual Training Account (ITA).

You could use the money to build the skills you need for a job. Or get some training to take your career to the next level. Whatever you want to do, there is a wide range of ITA approved courses on offer.
And because it's not a loan you don't have to pay it back.

How do I book?

To book a place on one of our courses, please complete and return the course booking form to the appropriate campus address or email address shown below. Course fees must be paid in full at the time of booking. Payments can be made over the phone using a debit/credit card, by cheque made payable to SRUC or by Bank Transfer (for bank transfer details please contact your chosen campus).


Cancellations must be made at least 10 working days prior to the course start date otherwise the full course fee is still payable. In the event that SRUC has to cancel a course for any reason your course fees will be refunded in full or your booking transferred to the next available date if this is suitable.
