We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate to participate in a research consortium on greenhouse gas removals (GGR) from the atmosphere. The research focus is on delivering the most comprehensive global assessment of potential, feasibility, barriers and impacts of soil-based technologies for GGR. The post-holder will mostly focus on the economic potential of a series of soil-based technologies that are deemed to be technically feasible (applicable) in different parts of the world. The methodological approach will be based on the construction of marginal abatement cost curves (MACC) to assess the cost-effectiveness of measures. There will be close interactions with other parts of the consortium in the Universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Cranfield identifying potential technologies based on experimental data. The post-holder will also be expected to interact with international partners and research teams.
More specifically we are looking for an enthusiastic researcher who will:
• Consider technical, economic and behavioural feasibiltiy of soil-based mitigation measures globally.
• Work with SRUC team members to analyse measures in a MACC framework.
• Conduct research of acceptable scientific standards within both social science and multidisciplinary research teams.
• Manage research in accordance with established financial and QA procedures.
• Report research methodologies and findings in scientific journals and other appropriate media.
• Engage in related Knowledge Transfer activities.
The successful candidate will report to the Professor in the Land Economy and Environment Research Group (LEES), but will develop links with other researchers in SRUC and other research institutions.
While the primary focus of this job is to undertake research, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to teaching on relevant courses, including the MSc in Ecological Economics hosted by the Sustainable Ecosystems team.
