About the Course

This course aims to provide you with a thorough knowledge of the fundamental concepts of business management delivered with modules which relate expertise to the agricultural and rural industries.

You enter the top-up degree course with a related HND or equivalent and study years 3 and 4 of our degree programme, graduating with an Honours degree.

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited Rural Surveying pathway, allows students to take a specified group of modules which will enable them to pursue a career as a Chartered Rural Surveyor.

The Rural Business Management BA/BA (Hons) degree is awarded by the University of Glasgow.

Entry Requirements

Entry is into year 3 of a degree, so you must hold a relevant qualification at SCQF Level 8, for example a related HND.

Course Content

Marketing, management strategy, research skills, and economics are supplemented by a range of modules relating to the rural industries. Your academic study is always underpinned by practical work such as field trips, case studies, business plans, study tours, industry placements and professional practice, helping to ensure that by the end of the course you have a firm grasp of your chosen industry.

In the fourth year you will undertake your own research project in a subject which interests you, drawing together all that you have learnt on your course. Topics covered are varied: recent Honours Projects have included an investigation into the economic viability of using anaerobic digestion in the equestrian industry, the potential for growth within the UK Beetroot juice market and, a feasibility study of a farm shop in an urban area.
