About the Course
The aim of the HND Agriculture course is to provide you with a vocational programme based on the skills and knowledge required for employment at supervisory/junior managerial level within the agricultural industry and for self-employment in farming or other land-based sectors.
You will gain the skills, knowledge and understanding of animal and crop production technology, farm mechanisation, business management and managing people which are necessary for a position as a trainee/assistant farm manager or equivalent.
You will also develop a sound appreciation of animal welfare, environmental and conservation issues and understand the concept of sustainability during your studies.
Course Duration: 2 years if studied full-time
Applicants must hold a minimum of 2 Scottish Highers (CC)/2 A-Levels (DE) or alternative qualification to include a science subject or geography.
Throughout the course you will develop:
- an overview of all agricultural systems including livestock, crops and farm buildings and machinery
- the essential business skills necessary to run a successful farm business
- an understanding of how agriculture relates to animal welfare, environmental and conservation issues
- the skills and knowledge to pursue a career at supervisory/junior management level within agricultural industries, or for self employment in farming or other land-based sectors.
You will study a wide range of subjects including modules such as Crop and Livestock Mechanisation, Farm Buildings and Controlled Environments, Livestock Nutrition, Pasture Management and Planning Budgeting and Control.
