Hi I'm
Kathleen Gunn
- Position: Agricultural consultant
- Location: Highlands and Islands
-
Expertise:
- Agriculture, Crops and Soils
- Livestock and Fishing
I am an agricultural consultant based in the Thurso SAC office since 2018. The office serves clients in Caithness and Sutherland, providing consulting services across a broad range of services which includes IACS (Industrial Automation Control Systems), AECS (Agri-Environment Climate Scheme), crofting regulatory work, and Carbon Audits.
Prior to working with SAC Consulting I was an Agricultural Officer with SGRPID (Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Directorate) which has provided a good base for my work now. Living and working on the family farm in Caithness provides me with experience of the current issues in the industry. Working with clients of various ages, units of different land capabilities, and with varying enterprises allows me to continue to develop my knowledge and interesting work.
Areas of expertise and interests
- Agriculture, Crops and Soils
- Livestock and Fishing
I'm currently working on
Carbon Audits - these are becoming increasingly important particularly with the foundation of a whole farm plan coming in 2025.
Whole Farm Plans – these are going to be an integral part of subsidy claims from 2025. I am working with farmers and crofters to help them to complete them or complete them on their behalf.
Crofting – this can be a complex area for those not familiar with Crofting Law. I complete crofting regulation applications to the Crofting Commission and Registers of Scotland on behalf of crofters. I also apply for funding for crofters under the Crofting Agricultural Grant Scheme for capital items such as fencing and sheds.
Farm Advisory Scheme – SAC Consulting facilitates events, publications, digital output, and videos for the Farm Advisory Service. I contribute to these areas providing various content to help farmers and crofters throughout Scotland.
My professional highlights
- Carbon Literate
- Liaising with Crofting Commission with the Common Grazing Finance training.
