The Context for our Research: The growing human population, and growing demand for food, are major challenges in their own right that need to be addressed in a world with potentially dramatically changing climate, and with growing pressure on its natural resources.

Animal & Veterinary Sciences
In AVS we have strengths in a number of science areas particularly
genetics, animal behaviour, nutrition and epidemiology.
In addition we
have skills in quantitative biology, genetic evaluations, analysis of
behaviour and specific lab-based approaches.

Crop & Soils Systems
The vision of the Crop and Soil Systems Research Group is to be
recognised nationally and internationally for the quality of our science
and knowledge exchange with stakeholders, to benefit crop production
and health, the environment, and the rural economy.

Future Farming Systems
The FFSG conducts rigorous interdisciplinary research that aims to
understand and meet the needs of a wide range of future farming systems.
It also aims to understand and engage with farmers and their
influencers and so precipitate beneficial change in farming systems and
practices both nationally and internationally.

Land Economy & Environment
Our research aims to improve the economic, environmental and social sustainability of rural areas.
Within
this broad remit, our research focuses directly on the development of
sustainable agricultural systems and food supply chains.

Pan-SRUC Seminars
Pan-SRUC seminar series is to enhance SRUC’s academic culture and improve communications.
REF 2014
REF is the new system for assessing the quality of research in UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Research Degrees
We offer excellent opportunities for postgraduate research leading to a higher degree such as a PhD. Our dynamic research programmes are led by scientists of international reputation.
Research Farms
We manage four research farm centres to provide research, education and knowledge transfer resources linked primarily to its applied research programme.
