Hair and Beauty students from SRUC Elmwood Campus at Cupar in Fife were award winners at this year’s Aberdeen College, Hair and Beauty Festival 2012.
The SRUC contingent were among 400 students in the Aberdeen Beach Ballroom including entries from Dundee, Inverness, Angus and Aberdeen Colleges. They competed in categories including, cover girl make-up, manicures, ladies commercial cut and blow dry as well as treatments based around themes of fantasy and high-fashion.
NVQ Level 3 Beauty student, Louise Keddie from Kennoway, won 1st place in Nail Art and 2nd in the Fantasy Make-Up category. NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing student, Lisa Gray from Dundee, came 3rd in the Cut and Blow Dry category.
Louise said about the competition:
“I had an excellent day. The atmosphere was amazing and it was good to see work from other students, as well as showing my own. It was a great feeling to win, as all the hard work was definitely worthwhile. It is something I will be proud to add to my CV in the hope of securing a job in.”
Beauty Therapy lecturer at Elmwood, Karin Anderson, said, “The event offered our students the chance to compete against other colleges and see how their skills measured up to the competition. Our students did a great job and we look forward to competing again next year.”
Courses available at Elmwood include an Introduction to Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (General), Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Massage) and Level 3 VRQ Complementary Therapy Techniques.
